Worms is an industrial town situated on the banks of the Rhine in the German State of Rhineland-Palatinate. The Cathedral of St Peter in Worms, or the Wormser Dom is considered to be one of the finest Romanesque churches along the Rhine and indeed all of Germany. It rises above all other buildings in the city and can be seen from miles away. Building began in 1110 but there were additions in the 13th and 14th Centuries. The church has a truly imposing exterior with four towers and two domes. The interior is equally as impressive and houses a choir at each end.
Many of the bigger festivals that attract the tourists take place in the summer months but another great time to visit the city is at Christmas. The traditional German Christmas market in Worms is set in idyllic surroundings and comes highly recommended with its 'Living Nativity Scene'.
